What a producer tag is for
A producer tag is your audio signature. When a beat is shared as an mp3, on a streaming page or in a video, the tag tells the listener who made it, so the work can be traced back to you. A good tag is short, clear and recognisable, and it fits the sound of your beats.
How to make a producer tag, step by step
- Write the lineA name and at most a short phrase. Write unusual names the way they should be pronounced.
- Get the voiceRecord yourself, ask a friend or a voice actor, or use a text-to-speech tool. Whoever it is, make sure you may use the recording commercially.
- Clean it upTrim the silence, remove noise and breaths, and set the level.
- Add the effectsEQ out the muddy lows, compress for consistency, then the colour: reverb and delay, a pitch or formant shift, light distortion. Build it around the mood of your beats.
- Make it fitKeep it one to three seconds, check it in mono and at a low volume, and leave the tail short so it does not run into the first drum hit.
- Export and placeExport a WAV, and put the tag at the start of your beats and at most once or twice later, a few decibels under the drums.
Producer tag ideas
Ideas for the shape of the line (use your own name, not a famous one):
- “[Name] on the beat”
- “This is a [Name] beat”
- The name whispered, then said once at full voice
- The name repeated twice with a delay throw on the second
- A short slogan that matches your sound, such as a crew or a place
- A name plus a signature sound, such as a laugh or a vocal chop
- A line in another language, if it fits your music
- A pitched-down or pitched-up voice for a character
DIY, AI or a custom voice tag?
- DIY costs only time and can sound great if you have a decent microphone and an idea.
- AI and text-to-speech is fast and cheap but sounds generic, and the license may limit commercial use.
- A custom voice tag gives you a voice and effects made for you. That is what we do.

Questions
What is a producer tag?
A producer tag, also called a voice tag, is a short spoken or sung line at the start of a beat that names the producer, so listeners know who made it.
How long should a producer tag be?
One to three seconds. A tag that is longer than that gets in the way of the beat.
Where do I put the tag in a beat?
At the very start, and once or twice later in the beat, for example before a drop. Keep it a few decibels under the drums.
Can I use a text-to-speech or AI voice for a producer tag?
Yes, but check the license of the tool: some do not allow commercial use or give you no exclusivity. A voice that thousands of other producers can generate will also sound generic.
Can you make one for me?
Yes. A custom voice tag is made for you by hand: you pick a male or female voice, write the phrase and describe the effects. It costs $20, ready within 24 hours of the confirmed payment, two revisions included.
